Holt earned All-American honors in the backstroke in 1979 and 1976. He was the team’s captain his junior and senior years and the Most Valuable Swimmer in his final season. During his four year career (1976-79), Holt qualified for the national championships in four individual events and three different relays. He held the school records in two individual events and three relays. Holt graduated with a bachelor’s in health and physical education in 1979 and earned his master’s in 1982.
He graduated from Sayreville Memorial High School in 1975.
