Rowan University - Glassboro State College Hall of Fame
The 1980 Men's Track & Field Team captured the program's first national title at the NCAA Championships held at North Central College (Naperville, IL), after finishing in second place for two straight years.
The Profs had four individual national champions: Leon Devero, 110 meter hurdles (14.42), Gustavo Rivera, 800 meters (1:49.54), Ringo Adamson, 3000 meter steeplechase (9:01.37) and Mike Juskus, javelin (258’ 5”). Devero and Juskus both set meet records.
David Hadley took second (47.14) in the 400 meters and Jack Kruse came in third (30:17.45) in the 10,000 meters. They both earned All-America honors.
The 4x400 meter relay finished fourth with a time of 3:11.02. The All-American relay consisted of Anthony Stone, Robert Lee, Rivera and Hadley.
Lenny Hernandez was an All-American with a fifth place (9:08.07) in the steeplechase. Clayton Davis came in sixth (14.90) in the 110 meter hurdles and received All-America honors.
Glassboro State College finished first with 61 points followed by California State Stanislaus with 56. Southern University of New Orleans was third (31) while Augustana College (29.3) came in fourth. Hamline University and North Central were tied for fifth place, each with 24 points.
