An outfielder, Ware started four years (1965-68) for the Prof baseball team. He earned All-Conference honors in 1966 and 1968 and was selected All-Area his senior year. He finished his career with a batting average of .330 and was one of the first players to achieve 100 hits. During his career, the baseball team went to the College World Series three times. Ware was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1968. He played for the Auburn Twins which won the New York-Penn League Championship. Ware also played two years of football (1964-65).
 
Ware received his bachelor’s degree in 1968. He attended Salem High School and graduated in 1964.
