Bob Pfeffer helped the Glassboro State baseball team reach the pinnacle and capture the 1978 College World Series, by turning in a few of the more remarkable pitching performances in NCAA history.
Â
Pfeffer pitched a total of 18 innings at the NCAA Regional when the Profs needed two straight wins to reach the College World Series. After pitching the 12-inning complete game win over Lynchburg, he threw another six to start the second game as Glassboro prevailed in 15 innings to move on to the World Series, while he was named the regional’s Most Outstanding Player.
Â
The righthander pitched two more victories to help Glassboro State win its first College World Series, and the school’s first national title, and was named the Outstanding Player of the World Series.
Â
A four-year starter, Pfeffer was a two-time All-American and at the time of his graduation, he held numerous school and NCAA records. He still ranks in the Top 30 in NCAA history for starts in a season (with 17 in 1978) and is tied for third all-time in complete games (13), while owning the school marks for starts (17), complete games (13) and innings pitched (121.0). Â
After that stellar 1978 season, Pfeffer was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and eventually played for their Triple A team before an injury ended his career.

Since his graduation from Glassboro State in 1978, Pfeffer has enjoyed a 30-plus year career with Marriott International.
