A four-year goalkeeper on the soccer team (1988-91), McManus compiled a 49-12-3 record, a 91.0 save percentage and a 0.61 goals against average in 72 career games. He holds the schools record for wins in a season with 19 (1991). In 1990 and 1991, McManus was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and selected to the All-Conference first team. He also received All-Region and All-State honors in 1990 and 1991.

When Rowan won the 1990 NCAA Division III title, he was chosen the Defensive MVP of the national tournament by the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America. In 1991, McManus was chosen to the All-America third team and was selected to the All-Conference second team in 1989.

He received his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology in 1997.
