Rimkis earned All-American honors three times in track and in cross country. At the NCAA Championships, he finished second in the steeplechase (9:00.43) in 1984 and took third place (9:05.33) in 1983. Rimkis was fifth at the 1983 NCAA Cross Country Championships with a time of 24:10. He was the conference’s cross country champion his junior and senior years. At the NJAC Championships, Rimkis won the steeplechase in 1983 and 1984 and the 5,000 meters in 1984.
 
Rimkis was an Academic All-American twice (1983, 1984) and selected to the All-East team. His senior year, he received the Albert F. White Scholar-Athlete Award. He graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s in health and physical education. In 1985, Rimkis was a participant for the East team in the Olympic Sports Festival and in 1988 he was an Olympic trials marathon qualifier.
 
He is a 1979 graduate of Washington Township High School and a member of the school’s Hall of Fame.
