Moriah Holmstrom was a rare three-sport athlete who excelled in field hockey and was instrumental as the program took on national prominence.

A four-year member of the field hockey team (1997-2000), Holmstrom earned All-America and All-Region first team honors in both 1999 and 2000. A four-time All-NJAC first-team selection, she owns the distinction of receiving one of the conference’s top awards every season  — Rookie of the Year (1997), Midfielder of the Year (1998, 1999) and Defensive Player of the Year (2000).

During her career, Rowan compiled a 64-16 record and won conference championships in 1998 and 2000, including the Profs’ first-ever NJAC title in the sport. A team captain in her junior and senior years, Holmstrom helped Rowan advance to the NCAA Tournament all four years and reach the national semifinals in 1999.

Holmstrom holds the school record for most goals (47) and points (115) in a career by a midfielder and ranks sixth on the program’s all-time scoring list in points (115), is 10th in goals (47) and is tied for 13th in assists (21).

She also played three seasons for the lacrosse team (2000-02), contributing 42 goals and 30 assists as a midfielder. In 1998, Holmstrom played second base/outfield for the softball team, batting .348 with 47 hits, 15 RBI and five doubles, as Rowan won the NJAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament.

Holmstrom graduated from Rowan in 2002 and was a health and physical education teacher at Glassboro High School until 2009. She then earned her master’s in special education and is currently a fifth-grade teacher in Atlantic City.
