Jeff Datz was an All-American catcher for the Profs and a member of the school’s 1979 NCAA Champion team.
As a senior, Datz batted .408 with 45 RBI and 14 home runs to earn selection to the 1982 All-America Second Team and the All-Conference First Team. A four-year letterwinner, the Profs won 93 games during his career, while he earned NJAC All-Star honors three times (1979, 1981, 1982). He owns the school record for career slugging percentage with .842.
Datz was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 19th Round of the 1982 MLB Draft and played in the Astros’ Minor League system from 1982 to 1988. He signed as a free agent with the Detroit Tigers in 1989 and appeared in five games for the team that season.
