Kara Gilligan was a four-year letterwinner and All-American in softball, while also playing one season with the lacrosse team.
 
The Profs’ catcher from 1991 to 1994, Gilligan was chosen to the National Softball Coaches Association All-America First Team as a senior, while also being named to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Championship All-Tournament team. Gilligan also earned first-team honors on the All-Conference and All-Region squads.
 
She recorded some of the top career hitting statistics in school history, with a batting average of .382, 140 RBI, 49 doubles, 98 runs scored and a slugging percentage of .570. Her mark of 11 total bases in a game still stands as a Rowan record.
 
The softball team compiled a 125-49 record in her four years and in 1994, went 37-9, won the NJAC title and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The 1993 squad was 35-14 and placed fourth at the NCAA Championship.
 
In her senior season, Gilligan was named to the Brine/IWLCA Division III South Atlantic All-Region Second Team. The goalkeeper posted 170 saves, a 57.0 save percentage and a goals against average of 8.3 for Rowan’s squad that went 13-3 and reached the NCAA Second Round.
