Mackoff was a record-setting diver from 1989-92. He was a four-time All-American and won Outstanding Diver of the Meet at the Metropolitan Championships three times. In 1990, Mackoff was the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) champion on the one-meter (506.55) and three-meter (506.60) boards. He broke the pool record in both the one-meter (475.15) and three-meter (525.20) diving at Mets. His one-meter score was also a meet record. Mackoff was the national runner-up in the one-meter (452.15) at the NCAA Division III Championships.
Mackoff set the meet record in both boards (one-meter, 523.65 and three-meter, 549.45) at the 1991 Metropolitan Championships. At nationals, he placed third in the three-meter (454.50) and sixth (415.25) in the one-meter competition for All-America honors. Mackoff won his third Outstanding Diver of the Meet award in 1992 to help Rowan win the team title. He was fourth (445.30) in the one-meter board at the NCAA Division III Championships. The Profs won
the NJAC crown all three years.
