Dr. LeRoi Royal Jones was an All-American and one of the conference’s top defensive players from 1993 to 1995, playing a key role on Rowan’s teams that reached the NCAA Championship game twice in three years.

Jones, a native of Red Bank, NJ, transferred back to his home state in 1993 after one year at the University of Nebraska and made an impact. The hard-hitting middle linebacker led the Profs in tackles in his first season, recording 133, with 47 solo tackles and four sacks. He was named an All-Conference First Team performer for the Rowan squad that made history with the school’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship game.

As a junior, he recorded 71 tackles in 1994 to again earn a spot on the All-Conference Team, picking up second-team honors.

In 1995, he was chosen to the AFCA All-America Team, as well as the All-America teams named by numerous publications, by recording 105 total tackles, with 40 solos, and three sacks. Jones was recognized as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first-ever Prof to earn the conference’s top award on defense. An All-Conference First Team honoree, Jones helped Rowan win the NJAC title and reach the national championship game for the second time in three years.
