Gloria Byard was a four-year member of both the Glassboro State field hockey and lacrosse teams from 1972 to 1976, and was selected to the All-College First Team in field hockey in her junior and senior seasons
 
Byard went on to play for the U.S. Field Hockey team from 1974 to 1978 and was a member of the touring team that traveled to Trinidad and Tobago.
 
After graduation in 1976, she started and coached the field hockey program at Salem Community College, building it to be the number-one team among two-year colleges in 1985.
