PHILADELPHA, PA --
Anna Sasse and
Ally Wernik both garnered honors on the Philly-SIDA Women's Cross Country Academic All-Area Team.
Sasse is highlighted for the second year in a row with Wernik earning her first accolade. The Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area teams are nominated and voted upon by the sports information directors at 30 institutions in the Philadelphia region. Student-athletes must be in at least their second year at their current institution and hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 or higher to be eligible.
Sasse, who majors in Mechanical Engineering, and Wernik, a Psychology major, capped off a tremendous 2024 season helping lead the Profs to a NJAC Championship and the program's first-ever NCAA Regional Championship. The duo placed in the top five as Rowan captured its seventh conference crown and its first NJAC title since 2019.
Two weeks later, the team totaled 81 points to edge out second-place Swarthmore (86 points) to secure the NCAA Metro Region title for the first time and automatically qualify for the for the Division III Championship.
Gabby Nye from Widener, Immaculata's Aubrey Donahue, Jefferson's Ana Eshraghi, La Salle's Gwenno Goode, and Eastern's Hailey Shreffler were also honored. Nye was chosen the all-area performer of the year.
