GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University women's outdoor track & field team competed on the first day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (NJAC) on Saturday. The conference championships are held at Stockton University.
The day was highlighted with
Darielle Cross (jr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) breaking the school and NJAC record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.03. The previous Rowan mark was 14.12 and the conference record was 14.17.
Aspen McMillan (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) was next in second (14.56), while
Ashley Edwards (fr. Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) was fourth (15.03).
Nicole Notarianni (so. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) and
Leilanie Hinton (fr. Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech.) finished seventh (15.30) and eighth (15.55) respectively. The five runners all qualified for the final on Sunday.
Michelle Macauley (sr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin Twp.) won her second straight conference championship in the long jump with a distance of 18' 1.75" (5.53 m). Edwards followed in second with a season best mark of 17' 11.50" (5.47 m).
Kierston Johnson (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) took eighth, jumping 16' 6" (5.03 m).
The Profs qualified five athletes to compete in the 100 meters final.
Aaniyah Robinson (so. Totowa, NJ/Passaic County Tech.) placed first with a season top time of 11.98, while Cross claimed third (12.41) and
Sidney McLeod-Whitener (so. Philadelphia, PA/Friends' Central School) was fourth (12.44). McMillan earned seventh (12.48) and
Promise Fadahunsi (fr. Monroe, NJ/Monroe Twp.) notched eighth (12.56).
Robinson also advanced to the final in the 200 meters with the best time in the prelims of 25.45. Myiah
Sturdivant (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) took second in 25.48, while Cross was fourth (25.78).
Melina Johnson (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) placed sixth (26.04) and
Kierston Johnson was eighth (25.97).
Sturdivant, Cross,
Melina Johnson and
Kierston Johnson will also compete in the final.
Sturdivant,
Claire Incantalupo (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and
Melina Johnson finished first (57.65), fifth (58.71) and seventh (59.31) respectively and all advanced to the final in the 400 meters.
Dani Nicklas (jr. Bellmawr, NJ/Audubon) will also run the final in the 400 meter hurdles with her first place in 1:05.77.
Madison Edwards (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a team's top time of 11:44.88. In the hammer throw,
Olivia Scattergood (so. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) recorded a toss 144' 3" (43.98 m) for third place, while
Chelsea Smith (fr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) was fifth with a distance of 137' 8" (41.97). Both were season best marks.
Jennifer Klavens (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) took fourth in the 10,000 meters with a season best time of 41:15.93.
Morgan Carr (fr. Hardyston, NJ/Wallkill Valley Reg.) placed fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 117' 4" (35.77 m). In the pole vault,
Kari DiTonno (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) earned fourth, clearing 9' 6.25" (2.90 m).
The conference championships resume on Sunday, May 6 at 10 a.m.
