GLASSBORO, NJ - Three Rowan University student-athletes -
Kristiina Castagnola (field hockey),
Dominique Marrone (women's soccer) and
Chad Yates (men's soccer) – have been named New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Athletes of the Week for October 14.
Castagnola becomes the second Prof to earn NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after the sophomore midfielder racked up nine points in two conference games last week. She scored three goals and assisted on three others as #4 Rowan split with Stockton (RV) and #16 Kean. She had a hand in five of the eight goals in an 8-2 win over the Ospreys, scoring two and assisting on three more. She added the Profs' lone goal in a 3-1 setback to the Cougars. Castagnola is currently fourth among all NJAC players in points (30), fifth in goals scored (12), and tied for sixth in assists (6).
Marrone earns her first NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after putting up seven points on three goals and one assist in a pair of Rowan wins. She had a hand in four of the eight goals in an 8-1 win over NJCU, registering a hat trick by netting the second, third, and fifth goals of the game and adding an assist. The seven points catapulted Marrone into a tie for fifth in the NJAC in conference-only points and a tie for fourth in conference-only goals. She is second on the Prof squad with 14 points on six goals and two assists for the season.
Yates picks up his first NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after scoring a pair of goals in the #22 Profs' 5-0 conference victory over NJCU. He scored the second goal of the game in the 46th minute and followed up with the third goal in the 60th minute. He put three shots on frame total in his 50 minutes on the pitch. The rookie forward is currently tied atop the rankings for conference-only points (7) and conference-only goals (3). In total, he is up to eight points on three goals and two assists for the season.
