Gordon's Three Goals Lead Rowan To A 7-1 Win Over John Jay

GLASSBORO, NJ – Midfielder Ryan Gordon scored three goals to lead the Rowan University men’s soccer team to a  7-1 victory over John Jay College on the first day of the Rowan Invitational Tournament on Friday night.

Rowan (2-1) advances to the championship against Catholic University on Saturday, September 8 at 4:30 p.m.  Prior, John Jay (1-2) will face Vassar College in the consolation at 2 p.m.  Earlier on Friday, Catholic defeated Vassar, 2-1.

Gordon’s (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) first goal at 2:50 put the Profs up, 1-0.  Forward Christian Fountain (so. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) picked up the assist.  At 7:36, Gordon took a shot and Fountain knocked the ball in off the rebound.  Bloodhounds’ forward Navid Allah Morad (jr. Balkh, Afghanistan/Flushing International) scored on a direct kick at 22:34 to cut the deficit to one (2-1).  Midfielder Dylan Smith (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had an unassisted goal at 38:29 to give Rowan a 3-1 halftime lead.

In the second stanza, Gordon found the net on a cross from midfielder Parker Oris (so. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) at 51:30.  Gordon’s third goal came on a penalty kick at 67:44.  Back Robby Davis (sr. North Wildwood, NJ/Cape May County Technical) added an unassisted goal at 68:52.  Back Frank Renna’s (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) had the final goal at 69:48 with an assist from forward Mike Pinter (so. Green Pond, NJ/Morris Knolls). 

The Profs took 26 shots and the Bloodhounds had eight.  Rowan goalkeeper Ryan Gill (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped one shot in 54:39.  Goalkeeper Michael Fanz-Huster (sr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) played the final 35:21.  John Jay goalkeeper Steven Merino (jr. Bronx, NJ/Salesian) made seven saves in the first half.  Goalkeeper Vitecha Kochaon (so. South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) turned away one shot in the second period.
