GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team shut out Medgar Evers College, 9-0 in a nonconference game on Monday night.
The Profs have a 9-7-2 record while the Cougars drop to 1-14 on the season. Midfielders Garrick Adamson (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Chris Grammatico (jr. Batavia, NY/Batavia) led the way with two goals apiece. Midfielder Travis Cortes (fr. Scotch Plains NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) contributed with one goal and two assists while forward Julian Berrios (sr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy) added a goal and an assist. Forwards Mike Pinter (so. Green Pond, NJ/Morris Knolls) and Devon Garner (so. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) and midfielder Parker Oris (so. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) chipped in with one goal apiece.
Rowan was ahead 2-0 after the first half. Adamson scored first at 3:10. His header went inside the left post after a cross from Berrios. Grammatico had the second goal with 3:45 left. Cortes passed to the center of the box and Grammatico hit the top left of the net.
In the final period, Adamson recorded his second goal at 48:03. He knocked in a feed from forward Will Kemp (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick). Berrios recorded an unassisted goal (49:29) with a shot to the right side from 20 yards out. Pinter blasted a shot to the lower corner at 68:22 for the fifth goal. Midfielder Dylan Smith (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had the assist. Oris scored (77:39) on a pass from Cortes. Grammatico found the net a second time at 80:45 and Garner had a breakaway goal at 81:36. Cortes scored the final goal with 1:30 remaining.
Rowan accumulated 35 shots while Medgar Evers only had three. Goalkeepers Michael Fanz-Huster (sr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton), Ryan Gill (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and Graeham Gotrell (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) shared the shutout. Fanz-Huster was the starter and was in the goal for 60:57. Gill saw action for 16:43 and Gotrell stopped one shot in the last 12:20. Cougars’ goalie Sherwin Henry (sr. Brooklyn, NY/West Demarara (Guyana) made 10 saves in 84:11 and goalkeeper Sadia LePrince Bodian (so. Brooklyn, NY/Machallah (Senegal)) played 5:49.
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, October 24 for the last game of the regular season at 7:30 p.m.
