SEWELL, NJ – The Rowan University women’s cross country team captured its fifth straight CollegiateTrack Conference Championship on Saturday. The Profs finished with 18 points among seven teams. The 6K race was held at Gloucester County College.
Vanessa Wright (jr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) was the individual winner with a time of 22:05.2. Danielle Czohla (sr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) came in second (22:09.1) followed by Meghan Borz (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit), third (22:32.7). Joy Hanke (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished fifth (23:48.9) and Deana Wood (fr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was seventh (24:05.7).
Onyi Obelle (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) took eighth place (24:18.8) while Samantha Stapleton (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Priscila Antuna (jr. Waretown, NJ/Southern Reg.) were ninth (24:35.9) and 10th (24:47.5) respectively. Brenda Mendez (so. Glassboro, NJ/Delsea Reg.) finished 15th (25:43.3) and Laura DuBois (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was 17th (25:53.4). Catherine Nolan (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) had a 21st place (26:11.5) and Lisa Leszcynski (fr. Trenton, NJ/Robbinsville) was 23rd (26:22.1).
Christina Ricci (fr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) came in 30th (27:07.2) while Francesa Contino (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was 35th (27:37.5) followed by Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), 36th (27:39.7).
Next week, Rowan will compete at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. The conference championships will be held at Richard Stockton College. The Profs are the defending NJAC champions.
