OWINGS MILLS, MD – The Rowan University men’s soccer team had a scoreless tie after two overtimes at Stevenson University on Saturday night.
The Profs are 2-2-2 overall while the Mustangs are 4-2-1 on the season. It was Rowan’s second straight tie. On Wednesday night, Rowan’s game at home against conference opponent Montclair State University ended in a scoreless tie.
The Profs totaled 15 shots while the Mustangs had nine. Goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) made four saves for Rowan. Goalkeeper Ryan Flannelly (sr. Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) stopped five shots for Stevenson.
In the first half, Rowan outshot Stevenson, 6-0. With 25:40 remaining in the second period, the Mustangs scored but there was an offsides call and the goal did not count. Midfielder Ryan Gordon (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) hit a rising shot that looked like it was going to go in the Mustangs’ goal just under the crossbar but Flannelly knocked the ball over the top of the goal. There was 7:32 left in regulation. Gordon ended the game with five shots.
Next week, Rowan travels to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, September 21 for a 7 p.m. conference game.
