Women's Cross Country Takes First at Fordham Fiasco and Men Are Second

BRONX, NY – The Rowan University women’s cross country team took first place at the Fordham Fiasco while the men finished second on Saturday. The races were held at Van Cortlandt Park.

The women had a score of 26 points out of 12 schools. East Stroudsburg University was second (53) followed by Philadelphia University third (74). Rounding out the top five were Richard Stockton College, fourth (155) and Ramapo College, fifth (170). The women’s course was 5K.

Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) came in second place (18:53.73) followed by Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.), third (18:54.45). Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) and Sammar Abueldoleh (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) were sixth (19:49.24) and seventh (19:56.65) respectively. The fifth runner to score was Meghan Borz (so. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) in eighth place (20:02.41). Joy Hanke (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished 11th overall (20:22.05) and Grace Kaler (so. Parisppany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) was 17th (20:40.14).

The men totaled 59 points behind East Stroudsburg with 52. The Delaware Running Club was third (108) while Molloy College and Felican College were fourth (177) and fifth (186) respectively. The men’s race consisted of 15 teams and was 4.75 miles.

Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) crossed the finish line in 25:14.21 for second place. Rob Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Triton Reg.) took fourth (25:19.67) and Jake McCormack (sr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) was ninth (25:37.12). Jeff Tauriello (so. Florham Park, NJ/Morris Hills) finished 21st (26:18.36) followed by Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City), 23rd (26:29.74). The Profs’ sixth and seventh runners were Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.), 33rd (26:55.77) and Jon Sewnig (fr. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame), 53rd (27:48.29).

Next, Rowan travels to Newville, PA for the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational on Saturday, September 24 at 11 a.m.
