GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team had a 4-1 victory over Moravian College in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.
The Profs improve to 5-4-2, while the Greyhounds have a 2-9 record. Rowan was led by forward Joe Parella (sr. Howell, NJ/Howell) with two goals and one assist. Forward Christian Fountain (fr. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) added one goal and one assist. Back Zack Zahrend (sr. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) found the net once. For Moravian, midfielder/forward John Pavia (jr. Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) scored one goal and midfielder Mark Casagrande (sr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Saint Rose) dished one assist.
Rowan took 15 shots and Moravian had 14. Profs’ goalkeeper Michael Fanz-Huster (jr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) made two saves in the first half. Goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped one shot in 30:09 and goalkeeper Kevin Vasta (so. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) turned away one shot in the final 14:51. Greyhounds’ goalkeeper Mike Brand (jr. Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) made three saves in 80:25. Goalkeeper Ethan Arner (fr. Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) played 9:35.
At 2:28 in the first period, Parella sent a pass to Fountain in the box and he kicked it into the left side of the net. In the second half, Parella had an unassisted goal at 48:34. Zahrend converted a penalty kick at 56:07 to give Rowan a 3-0 lead. At 67:08, Casagrande crossed the ball in front and Pavia kicked it into the lower left corner of the goal. Parella’s second goal at 69:01 came on a breakaway. Fountain picked up the assist.
Rowan hosts New Jersey City University in a conference game on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
