VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Virginia Wesleyan College men’s soccer team won 2-0 over Rowan University in the Chick-Fil-A Invitational on Saturday night.

Prior on Saturday, Christopher Newport University defeated Kean University, 3-1. In the first round on Friday, Christopher Newport shut out Rowan, 5-0 while Kean and Virginia Wesleyan tied 1-1 after two overtimes.

Back Josh Christian (jr. Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge) and midfielder Adam Stringer (jr. Louisville, KY/Eastern) each had a goal for the Marlins. Midfielder Brian Cornell (fr. Front Royal, VA/Warren County) registered one assist.

Virginia Wesleyan (1-2-2) took 20 shots and Rowan (3-2-1) had seven. In the Profs’ net, goalie Charlie Cunliffe (sr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) stopped five shots. For the Marlins, goaltender Alan Hinton (fr. Bristow, VA/Haymarket Battlefield) made three saves.

Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Thursday, September 16 for its first conference game of the season at 7 p.m.
