GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team recorded a 3-1 victory over Medgar Evers College on the final day of the Rowan University Invitational on Saturday night.
Rowan improves to 3-0, while Medgar Evers has a 1-2 record. Earlier on Saturday, Elizabethtown College (3-0) defeated New York City College of Technology (0-2), 7-0. The Blue Jays were named the tournament champions because of goal differential over the Profs.
Profs’ forward Petter Lunde (fr. Asker, Norway/Asker VGS) scored all three goals. Forward Julian Berrios (fr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy), midfielder Phil Mora (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and back Jason Dugan (sr. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) each picked up one assist. Forward Mike Pascale (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and Berrios were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Forward Sharard Sullivan (jr. Brooklyn, NY/North ETS) scored the Cougars’ lone goal. Midfielder Ancil Porter-Lee (jr. Brooklyn, NY/Presentation) and back Nkosi Dick (sr. Brooklyn, NY/Bishops) earned All-Tournament honors.
Rowan out shot Medgar Evers, 20-7. Profs’ goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) played the first 78:22 and made one save. Goalie Michael Fanz-Huster (fr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) was in the net for the final 11:38. Goalkeeper Kerri Pryce (so. Brooklyn, NY/Cornwall College) stopped four shots for the Cougars.
Lunde put the Profs ahead 1-0 at 11:24 in the first period when he knocked in a pass from Berrios. At 41:47, Lunde scored on a feed from Mora to give Rowan a 2-0 halftime advantage. Sullivan’s unassisted goal at 67:44 cut the deficit to one (2-1). Lunde sealed the victory with a goal at 77:48 and Dugan recorded the assist.
In the first game on Saturday, Elizabethtown College was led by midfielder Dan Featherer (so. Logan Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) with three goals. Forward Giovanni Correa (fr. Tres Coracoes, Brazil) added one goal and one assist. Midfielder Roman Jablonsky (fr. Long Valley, NJ/Gill St. Bernards) and backs Nicholas Antonellos (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton E.) and Geoff Cochrane (so. Holland, PA/Council Rock S.) each found the net once. Midfielder Cameron Gettel (jr. Rehrersburg, PA/Tulpehocken) chipped in with two assists, while forward Javeim Blanchette (fr. Old Town, St. Kitts and Nevis) had one.
Featherer was chosen the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Gettel and Blanchette were named to the All-Tournament Team. New York City College of Technology goalkeeper Nelson Restrepo (fr. Queens, NY/Aviation) also earned All-Tournament honors.
Rowan hosts St. Joseph’s College (LI) on Wednesday, September 9 at 7 p.m.
