GLASSBORO, NJ – The Elizabethtown College men’s soccer team defeated Medgar Evers College, 3-2 on the first day of the Rowan University Invitational.

Elizabethtown improves to 2-0, while Medgar Evers has a 1-1 record. In the nightcap on Friday, host Rowan takes on New York City College of Technology. On Saturday, Elizabethtown plays New York City College of Technology at 5:30 p.m. and Medgar Evers faces Rowan at 7:30 p.m.

Midfielders Dan Featherer (so. Logan Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Ross Withrow (fr. Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) and forward Javeim Blanchette (fr. Old Town, St. Kitts and Nevis) each scored one goal for the Blue Jays. Midfielders Cameron Gettel (jr. Rehrersburg, PA/Tulpehocken) and Michael Andrei (fr. Reading, PA/Exeter Twp.) recorded two and one assist respectively. For the Cougars, midfielder Ancil Porter-Lee (jr. Brooklyn, NY/Presentation) found the net twice.

Featherer knocked in a feed from Andrei at 4:46 in the first half to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead. At 21:47, Gettel found Blanchette on a cross to make the score, 2-0. Just under five minutes later, Porter-Lee connected on a free kick to cut the deficit to one (2-1). Withrow’s goal at 35:35 gave the Blue Jays a 3-1 halftime advantage. With 8:30 remaining, Porter-Lee scored on a free kick.

Elizabethtown took 17 shots, while Medgar Evers had six. Goalkeeper Andy Barnes (so. Wilmington, DE/A.I. DuPont) made one save in the first half for the Blue Jays. Goalie Eric Carr (fr. Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) was in the net for the second period. Cougars’ goalkeeper Kerri Pryce (so. Brooklyn, NY/Cornwall College) stopped five shots.
