GLASSBORO, NJ – The Eastern University men’s soccer team shut out host Rowan University, 2-0 on Sunday night. The game had been rescheduled from Saturday due to the condition of the field.
The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the season while it was the first loss for the Profs (4-1). Forward Drew Bixler (so. Bucktown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and midfielder Kyle Hurst (jr. Commack, NY/Hauppage) each scored a goal. Midfielders Alex Schweitzer (so. Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Nate Goble (sr. Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) each picked up an assist.
Rowan edged Eastern in shots, 12-11. In the Eagles’ goal, Jon Crowder (so. Landenburg, PA/Avon Grove) stopped seven shots for his second shutout this year. Profs’ goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made three saves in the first half. Michael Fanz-Huster (fr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) was in the net for the second period and had four saves.
Eastern scored one goal in each half. Bixler put the Eagles on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 8:38. Hurst headed in the second one at 57:38 with an assist from Schweitzer.
Rowan starts its conference schedule at home on Saturday, September 19 against Montclair State University at 7 p.m.
