IMMACULATA, PA – The Rowan University men’s soccer team began the 2009 season with a 3-0 victory over Immaculata University on Tuesday night.
For Rowan (1-0), midfielder Ryan Gordon (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and forwards Petter Lunde (fr. Asker, Norway/Asker VGS) and Julian Berrios (fr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy) each found the net once. Midfielder Zack Zahrend (so. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) and forward Mike Pascale (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) picked up one assist apiece.
In the first half, Lunde’s goal off a feed from Zahrend put the Profs ahead 1-0 at 20:57. Pascale found Berrios for Rowan’s second goal at 39:27 for a 2-0 halftime advantage. With 21 seconds remaining in the game, Gordon recorded an unassisted goal.
The Profs out shot the Mighty Macs, 17-6. Rowan goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made four saves for the shutout. Immaculata goalie Stone Gahagan (sr. Kintnersville, PA/Wyoming Seminary) stopped eight shots.
Rowan hosts the Rowan University Invitational on Friday-Saturday, September 4-5. On Friday, Elizabethtown College plays Medgar Evers College at 6 p.m. and Rowan hosts New York City College of Technology at 8 p.m. Elizabethtown faces New York City College of Technology at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Rowan takes on Medgar Evers at 7:30 p.m.
