AUBURNDALE, FL -
Evan McCoach's two-run double in the ninth inning capped the 6-4 come-from-behind win for #13 Rowan over UMass Boston at the RussMatt Invitational. Rowan improves to 7-2 overall and wins its fourth game on the Spring Break trip.
Christian Rice (1-0) earned the victory, pitching 4.0 strong innings with a career-high seven strikeouts. Starter
Zach Coluccio went 5.0 innings and struck out six.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the ninth,
Ian Murphy singled and
Jake Bartletta drew a walk. McCoach then brought pinch runner
Kevin Cole and Bartletta home with the winning runs on his double down the leftfield line.
Trailing 4-0 through most of the game, the Profs made their comeback in the seventh inning. McCoach started the comeback with a lead-off singled, followed by a base hit from
Joey Bogart. The duo both scored on wild pitches by UMB and then
Brayden Davis walked and was brought home on a sacrifice fly from
Jason Schooley. Rowan tied the game, 4-4, when
Kyle Lamanteer walked, and moved around the bases, scoring on a balk.
UMass Boston (4-6) struck first with three runs in the second inning on base hits and added to the lead, with an RBI single in the fourth.
McCoach went 4-for-6 in the game with two RBI while Davis had two hits and Schooley notched an RBI.
UMass Boston used seven pitchers in the game with Hunter Ward suffering the loss.
The Profs have a scheduled day off on Thursday before closing out the trip on Friday morning against Endicott at 10 a.m. at Chain of Lakes Complex in Winter Haven.
