Pennington Caps Final Day of NCAA Swimming Championships with All-American Finish and New School Record

GREENSBORO, NC -- Freshman Ella Pennington had quite the Saturday on the final day of the 2023 Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

First, Pennington broke her own school record in the 200 backstroke preliminaries (2:02.00), finishing 13th. Later in the consolation finals, she clocked in at 15th (2:03.65) to earn an All-American Second Team honors.

In men's action, Jack Watson (1:49.75) and Tobias Cahnbley (1:51.26) competed in the 200 backstroke prelims, but finished out of the top 16 needed to make the finals.

The 400 free relay of Cahnbley, Watson, Paul Riter, and Alex Volin swam a 3:03.14 in the preliminaries but was later disqualified after a swimmer had an early takeoff.

The men's team finished the championships with 18 points to finish 25th. Emory claimed the men's title with 532 points to get by second place Kenyon (495.5 points).

The women's team totaled two points for a 35th-place showing. Denison (464.5 points) won the women's championship by 79.5 points over second place Emory.
