COVID-19 Impacts Rowan Athletics as Seasons are Canceled

GLASSBORO, NJ - Considering the national landscape of intercollegiate athletics amid the threat of COVID-19, Rowan University has made the difficult decision to cancel all intercollegiate athletics activities for the remainder of the season and bring home student-athletes traveling for spring break competitions, effective immediately.

This is consistent with decisions to cancel events made by numerous universities, conferences and professional leagues over the last 24 hours and is one that is based on the health, safety, and the well-being of our student-athletes and coaches, as well as student-athletes' families, spectators and everyone involved in game management. The University is acting out of an abundance of caution and in step with other athletic departments taking the same approach across the nation, as many opponents have also canceled games involving Rowan, and the NCAA has canceled all of its scheduled championships.

Although this brings a premature end to the season for Profs teams and individual competitors, the University is confident that it is prudent, giving the possibility of spreading the novel coronavirus and endangering Rowan Athletics competitors, staff, officials and spectators. These measures are consistent with all decisions made so far in response to this public health threat.
