Sophomore lacrosse player
Michaela Donnelly is the subject of "Know Your Profs". Donnelly played in all five games as a freshman for Rowan before the season was cut short, scoring a goal against Washington College in the final game. A biochemistry major, Donnelly was named a Rowan Scholar-Athlete of Distinction in 2020.
Â
What was the biggest factor that led you to choose Rowan?
One of the biggest factors that influenced my decision on attending Rowan was the academic programs offered and the girls on the lacrosse team. Rowan has a strong biochemistry program, which was something I was looking for. The girls on the lacrosse team played a key role in my decision as well. I remember on my tours and for the lacrosse camps, all the girls were so friendly and inviting. I knew that this was the type of environment I wanted to be a part of.
Â
What is your most memorable moment in sports, whether at Rowan or before?Â
My most memorable moment in sports was my freshman year of high school during the lacrosse season. The lacrosse program at Nottingham High School was not the best, there was not a single win for the past 5 years before I was a freshman there. The program's first win happened on May 2nd, 2016. It was one of the best feelings in the world; I will never forget it. I felt a mix of so much relief and joy.Â
Â
If you could play any other sport in college, what would it be and why?Â
I would definitely play soccer. I played in high school and had so much fun. I also love watching soccer games, especially when the national team plays.
Â
Who was your biggest role model growing up?Â
My mom was one of my biggest role models growing up. She is the definition of strong. She worked nights at the hospital when I was younger so she could be with my sister and I during the day while my dad was at work. When I got older, she went back to school to further her education and get her master's in nursing; finishing with honors. She has inspired me to look at careers in the medical field so that I can help people who are in need. She has taught me that nothing worthwhile in life is easy.
Â
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
I would go to New Zealand because it is such a beautiful country with lots to explore. The landscape of the country such as the mountains and glaciers have always interested me.
Â
What's your choice – Netflix, YouTube, Cable TV? Favorite show?Â
I would choose Netflix, I don't really watch YouTube and I only really watch sports games on Cable. My favorite tv show is Criminal Minds. But New Girl is a close second.
Â
Who is your favorite professional athlete or team?
My favorite sports team is the New York Yankees.
Â
Who is your favorite follow on social media?Â
University of North Carolina women's lacrosse page. I love their intensity at practices and during games. I also love how much they give back to the community and the appreciation they show to their coaching staff and the athletic department.
Â
Which do you prefer – online classes or in person?Â
In person. I have felt a little disconnected from everyone since my classes have been online. I also find it harder to find motivation in my classes.Â
Â
What is your major at Rowan and what are your career aspirations?Â
I am a biochemistry major, with a neuroscience minor. I hope to attend medical school after graduating from Rowan and become a surgeon or something in the forensics field like a medical examiner.
Â
What's the best thing about being a Prof?Â
The best thing about being a Prof is all of the friendships I have made with my teammates and the connectedness I feel with everyone on campus.
