Baseball Defeats New Jersey City, 8-1 In Home Finale

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had an 8-1 victory over New Jersey City University in the final home game of the regular season on Friday.
 
The Profs up their record to 26-12 overall and 10-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Gothic Knights drop to 16-17 with a 5-11 NJAC mark.
 
Right-hander Andrew Cohen (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) earned his third straight win, hurling eight innings of one-run ball. He (4-4) allowed five hits while striking out seven. Righty Joe Stone (sr. Piscataway, NJ/John F. Kennedy Mem.) took the loss (0-1).
 
Right fielder Jason Clapper (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was two-for-four and scored one run. First baseman Joe Sadler (jr. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) produced a home run and four RBIs. Second baseman Alex Kokos (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), designated hitter Monny Strickland (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and center fielder Shane Brown (sr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) each tallied one RBI. Kokos scored three times and Strickland hit a double.
 
NJCU right fielder Joe Coutinho (sr. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) and second baseman Jeff Reinecke (sr. Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) recorded two hits apiece. Coutinho also drove in a run and left fielder Bill Feehan (fr. Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) crossed the plate one time. Shortstop Nick LoGatto (so. Helmetta, NJ/Spotswood) and Coutinho each hit a double.
 
Sadler put Rowan on the board in the first with a three-run shot off the pole in left field. Kokos and Clapper also scored on the homer. The Profs added a run in the fifth when Strickland doubled to left center and Kokos touched the plate. Each team posted a run in the sixth. Coutinho doubled in Feehan while Brown's infield single scored third baseman Dillon Mendel (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta).
 
Rowan added three insurance runs in the eighth. Left fielder Frankie Aiello (fr. Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) came home on a fielder's choice. Sadler's sacrifice fly plated Brown and Kokos swiped home on a delayed double steal.
 
The Profs close out the regular season with a doubleheader at William Paterson University on Saturday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m.
