Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team won two games, 7-1 and 12-5 against New Jersey City University on Sunday.
The Profs are 17-13 overall and 6-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Gothic Knights have a 13-15 record with a 0-10 conference mark.
Right-hander
Johnny Dunn (sr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) pitched a complete game for the victory in the opener. He (3-2) scattered eight hits and gave up one earned run. Righty Elijah Pereira (fr. Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) had the loss on the mound.
Shortstop
Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was two for four with a solo home run. Right fielder
Kyle Golla (jr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) contributed with a double, two RBIs and one run. Second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) produced a triple and scored one run. Center fielder
Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) and left fielder
Eric Oliver (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) each added a RBI.
For NJCU, catcher Andrew Niech (sr. Avenel, NJ/Colonia) went two for four with one RBI. Right fielder Joe Coutinho (jr. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) and first baseman Dan Berardi (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Middlesex) each had two hits. Third baseman Zach Buchholz (jr. Colonia, NJ/John F. Kennedy Mem.-Iselin) scored one run.
Rowan led 1-0 after the third inning. With the bases load, Oliver was hit by a pitch and first baseman
Steven Todd (sr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) scored. The Gothic Knights' lone run tied the score in the fourth. Niech singled to center field and Buchholz came home. Jolly led off the sixth inning with a solo shot to left center field. It was his second homer on the year. Rowan added three runs in the eighth. Golla drove in two with a double to left field and he scored on Phillip's sacrifice fly.
Righty
Brad Machinski (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) had the win on the mound in the second contest. In five relief innings, he (2-1) only allowed five hits. Left-hander Mike Ramirez (so. Old Bridge, NJ/Saint Joseph-Metuchen) took the loss.
Mendel went three for five with two triples, two RBIs and two runs. Phillips totaled two hits (five at bats), a triple and two RBIs. Golla produced two RBIs while Todd scored two runs. Jolly chipped in with two hits and one run. Designated hitters
Monny Strickland (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and
Shawn Leydon (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) each had one hit and one RBI. Oliver and Hughes tallied one hit and one run apiece.
Buchholz collected three hits (five bats) and one run. Niech was three for five with one RBI. Coutinho had two hits in three at bats and one run. Berardi tallied one hit, one RBI and one run.
