Box Score UNION, NJ – The Kean University field hockey team edged Rowan University, 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night. It was the conference opener for both teams.
Midfielder Shauna LaMaina (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) recorded the game-winner at 66:46. She stole the ball outside the circle then dribbled in and blasted a shot into the Profs' cage.
The Cougars are undefeated with a 10-0 record and the Profs have an 8-3 mark. Kean goalie Erin Smith (so. Roseland, NJ/West Essex) made two saves. Rowan goalie
Carly DeMarco (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) stopped seven shots and back
Skyler Pino (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) had one defender save.
The Cougars started the game with two straight goals. LaMaina tapped in a rebounded shot at 10:49 for the first one. She had a pass to forward/midfielder Lia DiPiazza (fr. Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) who was open in front of the Rowan goal for the second tally (16:22).
For the Profs, midfielder
Jacqui Rosati (so. Haddon Heights, NJ/Paul VI) scored at 22:39. Her shot hit the left side after a pass from back
Julie Johnson (fr. Mount Ephraim, NJ/Audubon). Rosati had taken the penalty corner.
In the second half, Pino tied the score at 52:27 with an assist from Johnson. Rosati started the scoring play with a penalty corner.
Next week, Rowan hosts The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
