Box Score HOBOKEN, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team tallied four runs in the top of the 11
th inning to defeat Stevens Institute of Technology, 8-4 on Tuesday evening.
The Profs improve to 8-5 on the season while the Ducks have a 7-5 mark. Right-hander
Brad Machinski (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) recorded the victory (2-0). He threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. Righty Danny McIntyre (jr. Lakeway, TX/Lake Travis) took the loss (0-1).
Designated hitter
Casey Grimes (sr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) went three-for-four with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Right fielder
Ryan Pavlik (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) had a double, scored one time and drove in two. Center fielder
Nick Kreiger (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) produced two RBIs and crossed the plate one time. Shortstop
Jason Clapper (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and third baseman
Kevin McMenamin (sr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) each knocked in a run. Clapper also scored one time.
Pinch hitter/left fielder Michael Mule' (so. Boca Raton, FL/West Boca Raton) was two-for-three with a RBI and run scored for Stevens. Pitcher/designated hitter Jayson Yano (jr. Foothill Ranch, CA/El Toro) plated two runs and scored one time. Right fielder Brian Hennelly (sr. Holbrook, NY/Sachem N.) chipped in with a RBI and run scored. All three players hit home runs.
Kreiger put Rowan ahead in the second with a RBI single that scored Grimes. Grimes hit a two-run blast in the third and the Profs were up 3-0. Hennelly recorded the Ducks' first hit when he led off the fifth with a homer. After a groundout, Mule' had a pinch-hit solo shot to right field and the score was 3-2. Grimes came home on a fielder's choice in the sixth to give Rowan a two-run lead. Yano tied the game with a two-run bomb in the bottom half of the inning. Pavlik gave the Profs the lead again with a two-run double in the 11
th. Clapper and McMenamin hit back-to-back RBI singles to provide insurance.
Rowan welcomes Haverford College for its home opener on Wednesday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m.
