Baseball Defeats Gwynedd Mercy, 17-4

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The #11/14 Rowan University baseball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University, 17-4 on Monday afternoon.
 
Right-handed pitcher Matt Nelson (jr. Allentown, PA/Parkland) pitched six innings to earn the victory. Nelson (3-1) allowed one run on six hits and struck out four batters. Lefty Rich Young (so. Havertown, PA/Monsignor Bonner) suffered the loss. Young (0-2) gave up four runs on five hits in three innings. Rowan has an overall record of 24-7 and Gwynedd Mercy has a mark of
15-12-1.
 
Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) went three for four with two runs scored and a RBI. Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) had two hits in six at bats, three RBIs and one run scored. Designated hitter Stephen Petriello (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) produced two hits (three at bats), two runs scored and two runs driven in. Left fielder Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) recorded two hits, scored two runs and knocked in two runs. Center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) had two hits, a double and crossed the plate twice.
 
First baseman Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) was two for four with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Catcher McCabe Reim (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had the first two hits of his career and scored one run. Right fielder Eric Sellitto (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) knocked in two runs, while third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) scored twice. Second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) totaled two hits in four at bats with one double, two runs scored and a RBI.
 
For Gwynedd Mercy, left fielder Mike Marchitto (so. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) had two hits, two doubles, a run scored and one RBI. Catcher Ryan Haley (sr. Lancaster, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) hit a double and drove in two runs. Infielder Chris Hens (so. Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) went two for three with a double and one RBI.
