Baseball Wins NJAC Game Over New Jersey City, 16-1

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team defeated New Jersey City University, 16-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Thursday afternoon.
 
Right-hander Richie Suarez (so. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) had the win in relief. He (3-0) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two hits. Righty Matthew Wagner (jr. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) had the loss. Rowan improves to 21-6 overall with an 8-3 conference record. The Gothic Knights drop to 9-16 overall and 3-8 in the NJAC.

Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) led the Profs with five hits (five at bats), a triple and three runs scored. Infielder Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) was two for four with a home run and scored twice. Williams and McMenamin knocked in three runs apiece. Second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) had two hits, a double, two RBIs and crossed the plate two times. Center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) and right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) both drove in two runs and scored one time. First baseman Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro), catcher Connor Grant (sr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) and left fielder Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each had one RBI. Catcher McCabe Reim (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and designated hitter Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) scored one and two times respectively.
 
Right fielder Joe Coutinho (fr. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) had a RBI and designated hitter/first baseman Pat Sheldrick (jr. Ocean Gate, NJ/Central Reg.) scored for the Gothic Knights' lone run. Catcher Andrew Niech (so. Avenel, NJ/Colonia) was two for four.

Rowan will travel to New Jersey City University on Friday, April 18 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
