Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team topped Neumann University, 15-1 in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday afternoon.
Right-hander Johnny Dunn (jr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) hurled eight shutout innings to earn the victory. He (1-1) surrendered just three hits and struck out three. Right-handed pitcher Kristian DeLuzio (so. Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) suffered the loss. He (3-3) allowed 11 runs, four earned in 2.2 innings. Rowan moves to 20-6 on the season while Neumann drops to 13-13.
Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) had four hits (six at bats) and one run scored. He drove in five runs. Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) went three for three with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Left fielder Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) had two hits (two at bats), a walk, one RBI and scored twice. Center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) was three for four. He knocked in two runs and crossed the plate twice.
Second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) was three for three with two RBIs and one run scored. Catcher Connor Grant (sr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) and third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) both had one RBI. Designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) and McMenamin each scored twice. First baseman Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and pinch hitter/catcher Stephen Petriello (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) both tallied a run.
Matt Sheneman (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Reg.) had one hit and scored Neumann's lone run.
In the first inning, Williams singled in Pavlik for the first tally of the game. The Profs added 10 runs, three earned, in the third. Kreiger had a RBI single in the fourth and Perez scored Grimes with a fielder's choice in the fifth. Williams plated Petriello with a single in the eighth. Sheneman ended the shutout when he scored on a double play groundout in the ninth.
