Baseball Defeats Host New Jersey City University, 13-2

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team defeated New Jersey City University, 13-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday.

The Profs are 21-10 overall and 6-5 in the conference.  The Gothic Knights have a 14-16 record with a 3-8 NJAC mark.  Right-hander Ryan Easterday (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) went eight innings for the win.  He (5-2) gave up two runs, one earned.  Righty Brian Sietsma (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Eastern Christian) pitched the final inning.  Right-hander Wendell Rodriguez (sr. Ponce, Puerto Rico/County Prep) had the loss.  He (4-4) allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs.

Rowan totaled 16 hits on the day.  Catcher Stephen Petriello (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) was three for four with a double, one RBI and two runs scored.  Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) totaled three hits (five at bats), a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.  First baseman Sean Kelly (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) contributed with two hits (five at bats), one double, three RBIs and one run scored. 

Second baseman Mark Benak (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) had two hits in four at bats, one double and scored three runs.  Designated hitter Casey Grimes (so. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) produced two hits (four at bats), a home run and two runs scored.  Right fielder Eric Sellitto (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and center fielder Eric Perez (jr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) each registered a double, one RBI and one run scored.  Shortstop Ryan Williams (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) added one hit and one RBI.

For NJCU, first baseman Alex Weinstein (so. Colonia, NJ/JFK-Iselin) collected two hits (three at bats) and one RBI.  Right fielder Matthew Wagner (so. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) had two hits in four at bats.  Second baseman Pete Senyszyn (sr. Carteret, NJ/Carteret) and left fielder Andrew Rivera (sr. Edison, NJ/Edison) both tallied one hit and scored one run.

The Profs scored five runs in the top of the third inning while the Gothic Knights had one in the bottom half.  Kelly knocked in Benak and Petriello with a double.  Kelly and Grimes came home on a double by McMenamin while Sellitto’s double scored McMenamin.  Rivera crossed the plate on an error. 

Rowan led 9-1 after six innings.  In the fourth, Petriello had a single to left center, scoring Benak.  Grimes led off with a home run in the fifth.  It was his sixth homer of the season.  Kelly produced a RBI single in the sixth and Petriello stole home on a delayed double steal.  The Profs added three more runs in the eighth while the Gothic Knights had one.  McMenamin and Sellitto both came home on an error and Williams had a RBI base hit.  Weinstein singled home Senyszyn.  Rowan’s last run in the ninth scored when Perez walked with the bases loaded.
