ASTON, PA – The Rowan University baseball team rallied for a 7-6 win at Neumann University on Tuesday. The Profs trailed 6-2 then scored two runs in the seventh inning and three in the eighth for the victory.
Right-hander Matt Nelson (so. Allentown, PA/Parkland) earned the win in relief. He (1-0) went 1.1 innings and only allowed one hit. Lefty Russ Gilliam (sr. Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) took the loss. He (2-2) gave up one unearned run in one inning. Rowan is 19-10 overall while Neumann has a 19-9 record.
Pinch hitter Ryan Easterday (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) produced a double and two RBIs for the Profs. Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) registered a double, one RBI and one run scored. Third baseman Johnny Dunn (so. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) contributed with two hits in two at bats and one run scored. Second baseman Mark Benak (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) contributed with a double and scored one run. Catcher Stephen Petriello (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and right fielder Eric Sellitto (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each had one hit and one run scored. Petriello posted a double.
For the Knights, second baseman Buddy Elgin (so. Chestertown, MD/Kent County) was two for five with a triple and two RBIs. Shortstop Will Flores (sr. Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) went four for five with one RBI and two runs scored. Right fielder Bill Pace (sr. Boothwyn, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) contributed with two hits (five at bats), a triple and one run scored. Third baseman Ryan Ficca (fr. Lionville, PA/Bishop Shanahan) had one hit and scored two runs.
Neumann was ahead 3-2 going into the sixth inning. In the bottom half, Pace crossed the plate on a passed ball. Flores had a RBI single and center fielder Matt Sheneman (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) drove in one run with a double.
In the seventh, Easterday started the come back with a double down the left field line, scoring McMenamin and shortstop Danny Lang (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown). McMenamin walked with the bases loaded in the eighth and Petriello came home. Left fielder Rich Powelson (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) reached on an error and Sellitto designated hitter Sean Kelly (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) both scored.
