GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team lost at home to Haverford College, 13-7 on Tuesday.
The Fords have a 1-0 record while it was the first loss for the Profs (5-1) on the season. Right-hander Tommy Bergjans went five innings for the win. He scattered four hits and gave up one earned run. Bergjans struck out seven batters. Righty Ryan Easterday (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) took the loss. He (1-1) pitched three innings and allowed six hits.
For Haverford, designated hitter Alex Hudak registered four RBIs, one hit and one run scored. Third baseman Casey Fox contributed with two hits (six at bats), two RBIs and two runs scored. Center fielder Nick Miranda was three for five at the plate with three runs scored. Catcher Nick Ott chipped in with two hits (four at bats), one RBI and one run scored Second baseman William Bannard added two hits in four at bats, one RBI and three runs scored.
Rowan catcher Sean Kelly (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) produced two hits, a double and a home run and three RBIs. Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) totaled three hits (five at bats), two RBIs and one run scored. Center fielder Eric Perez (jr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) had one hit, one RBI and two runs scored.
The Fords had an 11-0 lead with six runs in the third inning and five in the fourth. The Profs got on the scoreboard with Kelly’s solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Haverford added two more runs in the seventh inning for a 13-1 advantage. Rowan produced two runs in the eighth. McMenamin drove in Perez with a base hit down the left field line. McMenamin came home on a single by first baseman Casey Grimes (so. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro). The Profs scored four runs in the ninth. Shortstop Ryan Williams (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) crossed the plate on an error with Perez at bat. Kelly knocked in two runs with a double to center field. McMenamin’s ground out brought Perez home.
