DEMOREST, GA – The Rowan University baseball team lost to Centre College (KY), 7-2 on Saturday. It was the Profs’ last game on their spring break trip and it was played at Piedmont College.
The Colonels’ Joe Nash pitched a complete game for the win. Nash (3-0) only allowed four hits and two earned runs. Right-hander Dylan Johannink (fr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) threw four innings in the loss. Johannink (0-1) gave up four earned runs on four hits.
For Centre (9-8), catcher Cameron Fishman went three for four with two RBIs. Third baseman Charlie Holland contributed with two hits (four at bats), one RBI and one run scored. Shortstop Aaron Ammann chipped in with a double and two RBIs. Second baseman Phil Brilli added one hit and one RBI. Right fielder Jason Osterman had one RBI and scored one run. Designated hitter Danny Freudiger produced a double and one run scored.
Profs’ catcher C.J. Szymczak (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and second baseman Brandon Winkler (sr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) each had one hit in three at bats and one RBI. Third baseman Rich Powelson (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) registered a double and one run scored. Designated hitter Nick Turano (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) had one hit while right fielder Matt Hill (sr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Robbinsville) scored one run.
Rowan was ahead 2-0 after scoring one run in the second and third innings. With two outs, Powelson had a double in the second inning. Winkler followed with a single, scoring Powelson. In the third, Hill walked and later crossed the plate on Szymczak’s single.
Centre took the lead 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning. Fishman drove in left fielder Sean Cole with a single for the first run. Center fielder Cody Nelson scored on a fielder’s choice and Brilli singled in Holland. Fishman recorded a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and Freudiger went home. The Colonels added two runs in the sixth for a 6-2 advantage. Ammann plated both runs with a double. Centre’s last run came in the seventh. Nelson scored on Osterman’s sacrifice fly.
Next, Rowan (10-3) plays at home on Tuesday, March 20 against York College (PA) at 3:30 p.m.
