ASTON, PA – The Rowan University baseball team won 10-3 at Neumann University on Wednesday.

The Profs have a 13-6-1 overall record while the Knights are 18-6 on the season. Right-hander Steven Melchiorre (so. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) pitched seven innings for the win. Melchiorre (3-0) scattered nine hits and gave up three runs. He totaled seven strikeouts. Righty Mike Dicken (so. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) took the loss. In 4.2 innings, Dicken (2-2) allowed eight hits and three earned runs.

Center fielder Matt Citro (sr. Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg) produced three hits, two doubles and one triple, in five at bats, one RBI and two runs scored. Left fielder Scott Weaver (sr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) collected two hits (four at bats) and three runs scored. Right fielder Kevin O’Brien (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) went three for four with one double and one run scored. Catcher C.J. Szymczak (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) had one hit in three at bats with two RBIs and one run scored. Designated hitter Nick Turano (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) contributed with one hit (four at bats) and three RBIs. Shortstop Marc Magliaro (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) and second baseman Brandon Winkler (jr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) each chipped in with one hit, one RBI and one run scored.

For Neumann, designated hitter Bobby McCormick (fr. Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) tallied three hits (four at bats), two RBIs, a double and a triple. Right fielder/first baseman Derrek Etsell (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Northeast Catholic) and third baseman Mathieu Vallieres (sr. Quebec City, Quebec/St. Patrick’s) had two hits in four at bats and one run scored apiece. Catcher Joey Armata (so. Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Gorett) was one for four with one RBI while shortstop Kevin Flannigan (jr. Wilmington, DE/St. Mark’s) had one hit (four at bats) and one run scored.

Rowan got on the scoreboard with two runs in the first inning. Turano recorded a two RBI single to left field. Neumann tied the score in the bottom of the fourth when McCormick tripled in two runs. In the fifth, the Profs went ahead 4-2. Citro led off with a triple to right center and crossed the plate on Magliaro’s single. Magliaro later came home on fielder’s choice with Turano at bat. The Knights scored one run in the sixth and trailed 4-3. With two outs, Flannigan reached base with a double down the left field line. He went to third on a hit by McCormick. Armata plated Flannigan with a single.

Rowan led 9-3 after scoring five runs in the seventh inning. Weaver came home on Szymczak’s single and Winkler knocked in O’Brien. Szymczak crossed the plate on an error. Citro recorded a RBI double and later scored on an error. The Profs’ final run came in the eighth inning with a sac fly by Szymczak.

Rowan starts its conference schedule at home against The College of New Jersey on Thursday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m.
