Field Hockey Wins 3-2 Over Kean University

UNION, NJ – Midfielder Marisa Schoepflin scored the winning goal for the Rowan University field hockey team in a 3-2 victory over Kean University on Saturday afternoon.

Schoepflin (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) recorded the game-winner at 41:18 on a pass from back Lauren Conner (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.). Kean forward Olivia Triano (jr. Keyport, NJ/Keyport) tied the score at two with an unassisted goal at 37:44. Triano also assisted on the Cougars’ first goal at 35:16. Her pass was tipped in by forward Makia Sturgis (fr. Dover, DE/Dover).

The Profs, ranked 14th in the nation, are 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Cougars have a 7-3 record with a 1-1 conference mark.

In the first half, Schoepflin put Rowan on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 5:07. She knocked the ball into the right side of the cage off a scramble. Forward Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) made the score 2-0 at 5:53. Valianti’s goal came on a breakaway with an assist from forward Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee).

Rowan totaled 22 shots while Kean took six. In the Profs’ cage, goalie Jen Goldberg (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made one save. For the Cougars, goalie Lauren Dobbs (sr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) had one save in 6:30. Goalie Jessica Zebley (fr. Dover, DE/Dover) played 63:30 and stopped 12 shots.

Next week, Rowan hosts nonconference opponent Wesley College on Tuesday, October 12 at 7 p.m.
