WINTER HAVEN, FL – The Rowan University baseball team lost to FDU-Florham, 10-9 on Friday at the Russ Matt Tournament. The Profs are 7-3-1 on the season.

Starter Jake Hazen (fr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) pitched 6.1 innings for the victory. He scattered eight hits and had four strikeouts. Adam Garry (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) earned the save. Right-hander Tony Cavalier (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) suffered the loss in his first start of the season.

For the Devils (4-4), center fielder Dan Pregno (so. Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) was two for three with two RBIs and one run scored. First baseman Matt Joiner (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Notthingham) contributed with two hits (five at bats), two RBIs, a triple and one run scored. Second baseman Chris Baldino (jr. Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and right fielder Matt Oliveto (jr. Union, NJ/Union Catholic) each added two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Third baseman Greg Geran (jr. Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) scored two runs.

Left fielder Scott Weaver (so. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) paced the Profs with three hits (three at bats), four RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. Second baseman Pete Delleani (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) was three for five with one RBI. Right fielder John McMullin (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had three hits in three trips to the plate, a double and one run scored. Third baseman Brad Woodend (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) totaled three hits (five at bats), two runs scored, one RBI and a triple.

FDU exploded for all 10 runs in the fourth inning. Rowan got on the scoreboard with one run in the bottom of the sixth. McMullin doubled with two outs and crossed the plate on Delleani’s single. Weaver recorded a two run homer in the seventh and Woodend scored on an error. The Profs added two more runs in the eighth and trailed 10-6. Woodend tripled in Weaver and Newell followed with a triple that scored Woodend. In the ninth, pinch hitter Jordan Marsch (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) had a RBI single and Weaver singled in two runs.

Rowan ends its Florida trip with a doubleheader against Western Connecticut State at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21.
