WINTER HAVEN, FL – The Rowan University baseball team recorded a 7-5 victory over Salem State College (MA) at the Russ Matt Tournament on Wednesday.

Rowan improves to 7-1-1, while Salem State has a 3-3 record. Right-hander Kevin O’Hara (sr. Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) threw 5.1 innings for the win. O’Hara (2-0) recorded seven strikeouts and gave up three runs. Righty Todd Burdette (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) tossed 0.1 inning for his third save. Pitcher Michael Voyer pitched five innings for the loss. Voyer (0-1) allowed six runs, four earned and struck out four hitters.

The Profs were led by catcher Bill Donovan (fr. Mantua, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) with two hits (three at bats) and three RBIs. Second baseman/shortstop Pete Delleani (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Christian Brother Academy) went two for three with three runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases. First baseman Sam Parks (sr. Monroeville, NJ/Woodstown) contributed with two hits (three at bats), one RBI, one run scored and a double.

For the Vikings, catcher Nick Dunn was two for three with two runs scored. Third baseman Ryan Kane added two hits (five at bats), four RBIs and a double. Designated hitter Ken Luongo totaled one hit in four trips to the plate, one RBI and one run scored. First baseman Steve Mucci went three for four.

In the bottom of the second inning, Reindel singled in Delleani to give Rowan a 1-0 advantage. Salem State answered with three runs in the top of the third. Luongo hit a single that plated Dunn and Kane followed with a two RBI double. The Profs reclaimed the lead (4-3) with three runs in the bottom half. Parks scored on a single by Delleani, who moved to second on an error, which brought home center fielder Garrett Mull (sr. Chatsworth, NJ/Lenape). Donovan’s single drove in Delleani.

Rowan tacked on two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth. Donovan had a two run single in the fifth and Parks’ double knocked in left fielder Jordan Marsch (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) in the sixth. Kane ripped a two run single in the top of the ninth to bring Salem State within two (7-5), but Rowan held on for the win.

Rowan faces Ripon College (WI) on Thursday, March 19 at 3 p.m.
