GLASSBORO, NJ -- A total of six Prof student-athletes received accolades from the New Jersey Athletic Conference in the weekly awards for the week ending September 24th.
Mia Guerra (NJAC Runner of the Week) and
Ally Wernik (NJAC Rookie of the Week) swept the women's cross country awards while
Jacob Riley (NJAC Runner of the Week) and
Colin Patterson (NJAC Rookie of the Week) did the same in men's cross country.
Vanessa DiDonato captured the NJAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week with
Vanessa Hutchinson awarded the NJAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Guerra placed 14th (22:57.6) in the 6k race at the Dickinson Long/Short Invite on Saturday as the top Prof finisher, eclipsing her best time in the event by two minutes. Wernik was 37th in that race, surpassing the 24-minute mark for a season-best time and capturing the rookie of the week honor the second time this year. The duo helped Rowan to an eighth place team result in the event.
Riley was the top Prof and top NJAC runner at the Dickinson Long/Short Invite, finishing eighth overall (12:14.6) in the 4k race. Patterson, who earned top rookie honors for the third time this season, was 23rd (12:37.4) as the Profs had a fourth place showing.
DiDonato, who earns NJAC weekly honors for the first time this season and the second time in her career, Â totaled four goals and an assist in the #10 Profs' 1-1 week. The junior scored two goals in a 4-3 loss to Haverford, and helped the Profs avoid back-to-back losses by scoring a pair of goals in the 4-3 win at Cabrini. She leads team in scoring with nine goals and three assists on the year and has recorded two or more goals in three consecutive games for Rowan.
Hutchinson totaled 91 digs in 15 sets last week along with seven aces and 10 assists. The sophomore notched a personal-best 33 digs and tied a career high with five aces in the 3-1 win over Brockport on Saturday at the Messiah quad match. Currently this year, Hutchinson leads the NJAC in total digs (244) and digs per set (4.98) while her 20 aces rank her second on the team.
This week, both the women's and men's cross country teams are in action at Lehigh for the Paul Short Run on Saturday. The field hockey team (5-3) is on the road for games at nationally ranked Messiah on Wednesday then a trip to TCNJ to open up conference play on Saturday in a rematch of last season's title game. The volleyball team (3-10, 0-1 NJAC) plays two conference games this week; first up is a matchup at Stockton on Tuesday followed by a home date with Montclair State on Thursday.
