Seven Profs Highlight NJAC Weekly Awards

PITMAN, NJ -- The New Jersey Athletic Conference selected a total of seven Rowan student-athletes in its weekly awards program for the week ending September 10th.

Football had three award winners in Thomas Goldsborough (NJAC Player of the Week), Nunes Bukula IV (NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week), and Carter Williams (NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week). Olivia Giordano was named the NJAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week with Johnny Troiano the NJAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. NJAC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Aida Ingram and for the second week in a row, Colin Patterson was chosen the NJAC Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.

Goldsborough threw for 252 yards on 11-of-16 passing with three TD's and one interception in Rowan's first win on the year, a 49-28 victory at McDaniel. The sophomore quarterback threw scoring passes of 38 yards, 10 yards, and a big 97-yard TD pass all in the first half. On the season, Goldsborough had thrown for 273 yards on 14-of-22 passing (63%) with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Bukula rumbled for 53 yards on 13 carries and two trips into the end zone. The rookie added the game's first points with his 2-yard run in the first quarter and later his second score on a nice 8-yard TD in the fourth. It was his first action of the season.

Williams had three tackles (one solo), 1.5 tackle for losses, a sack, and a forced fumble. In two games, the freshman has five stops (three solo) along with a quarterback hurry.

Giordano totaled four goals and two assists in a 3-0 week. The sophomore forward had a goal and an assist in wins over Manhattanville on Tuesday and Farmingdale State on Friday. Giordano netted two tallies in Sunday's win over Western Connecticut State. She is second on the team with 10 points (4 G/2 A).

Troiano scored all three of Rowan's goals last week in a pair of ties, as the Profs rallied from deficits in both matches. The sophomore netted the tying goal in the first half against Johns Hopkins to force a 1-1 draw and with the Profs trailing 2-0 at Haverford by halftime, Troiano twice in the final 20 minutes of regulation to force the 2-2 stalemate. The forward leads Rowan in scoring with three goals this season.

Ingram, the Profs' senior goalie, earns defensive player of the week honors for the first time in her career as she totaled 25 saves and allowed just three goals in #3 Rowan's 1-1 week. Ingram made five saves as the Profs rallied to a 2-1 win over Swarthmore. She followed that by posting a career-high 20 saves in a 2-0 loss to #2 Johns Hopkins as she faced 27 shots by the Blue Jays. On the season, Ingram owns a goals against average of 1.25, and has totaled 36 saves

Patterson was sixth overall (28:22.4) at the Philly Metro Invite 6k at the Belmont Plateau helping Rowan to the team title. He was the top freshman in the race for the second-straight week as the Profs also won its second meet in a row.

Football (1-1) hosts Ursinus Saturday night here in Glassboro as part of "Saturday Night Lights". Women's Soccer (4-0) plays twice at home this week, Wednesday vs. Swarthmore and Friday against Penn State-Berks. Men's Soccer (1-0-3) is also in action on Wednesday, taking on Cortland before Saturday's home game against CCNY. The Rowan Field Hockey Team (2-2) hosts Stevens on Wednesday and Arcadia on Saturday. Next Saturday, September 23rd, the men's cross country team travels to Dickinson, home of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship this November, for the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa.
