Jamie Cutrera scored four goals for Rowan but sixth-ranked TCNJ built up an early lead en route to a 16-9 win over the Profs in the NJAC Women's Lacrosse Championship game today.
The Profs are now 14-5 and await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, which will be announced on Monday at 10:30 a.m. on NCAA.com.
Cutrera added an assist for her sixth game this season with five or more points, while
Julianna Corson had two goals as the only Profs with multiple goals. TCNJ held a slim 26-20 advantage on shots on goal, and
Reilly Shaup made 10 saves for the Profs.
"This is a strong resilient group do young women who fell short today but have been and will continue to be an outstanding team that supports and builds each other up. If we get our name called on Monday, we will be ready," said head coach
Lindsay Delaney.
The Lions scored the game's first three goals before
Michaela Donnelly got the Profs on the board at 10:54, with the assist from Cutrera. The senior then followed with a goal of her own less than two minutes later to pull the Profs within, 3-2.
TCNJ (15-3) proceeded to score four straight goals, with two from Anna Wright, to go up, 7-2.
Erin Renshaw got one back for Rowan before TCNJ netted two in the final 16 seconds to take a 9-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Lions started out the second quarter with two quick goals before
Hannah Lombardo netted one, followed by goals from
Julianna Corson, and Cutrera to pull Rowan within 11-5 at halftime.
Cutrera scored the Profs' only goal of the third quarter, with an assist from Renshaw, while TCNJ netted two more to own a 13-6 lead.
TCNJ got the first goal of the fourth and then the Profs tried to close the gap, as
Julianna Corson scored one to get Rowan within, 14-7. The Lions answered with another before Cutrera scored a pair, and then TCNJ finished out the game.
