#18 Women's Lacrosse Closes Out Season in NCAA Third Round with Loss to #1 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, VT - Top-ranked Middlebury scored the first seven goals of the game en route to a 21-4 victory over #18 Rowan in the Third Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Profs end the season with a 15-5 record, having reached the final 16 of the NCAA Championship for the second year in a row.

Elaina Corson closes out her career as Rowan's all-time leading scorer with 332 points and as the all-time leader in goals with 273.

Trish Gillen also added two goals in the contest while Fiona Lockhart picked up an assist.

"This season as a whole has been about this program continuing to write and own our story. With the senior class always united, our underclassmen were able to grow and be challenged in new roles. Today is not the outcome we wanted but we will not allow one game to define the hardwork, exciting moments, goal breaking plays we had throughout the year. We are proud of this group on and off the field. We choose us always," said head coach Lindsay Delaney, who has compiled 201 wins in her 19 seasons at Rowan.

The Profs' senior class of Corson, Gillen, Lockhart, Leah Corkhill, Yasmin Harris, Ryley O'Brien, Jenna O'Neill and Megan Tanner graduates having led Rowan to two seasons of being nationally-ranked, making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and posting a 31-9 record in the last two years.

Middlebury scored the first seven goals of the game with Gillen getting the Profs on the board with a free-position goal with 3:57 left in the first quarter.

Middlebury (20-0) took a 9-1 lead into the second quarter, but Corson got her first goal of the game at 13:40. She added another minutes later as Middlebury held a 10-3 lead, and the Panthers scored three more to own a 13-3 halftime advantage.

The Panthers were up, 16-3, in the third quarter when Gillen scored the final goal of the Profs' season, with the assist from Lockhart.

Rowan was outshot, 29-8, in shots on goal while Kylie Durboraw made eight saves.
