PITMAN, NJ – Rowan had five student-athletes this week earn accolades from the New Jersey Athletic Conference in its awards for the week ending April 30th.
Women's Lacrosse had two winners in Molly Green (NJAC Defensive Player of the Week) and Elaina Corson (NJAC Rookie of the Week) as did women's track & field in Emily Galvin (NJAC Field Athlete of the Week) and Alexia Bey (NJAC Rookie of the Week). In men's track & field, Evan Corcoran captured the NJAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Green captured the award for the second straight week as Rowan won both games and clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming NJAC Championship Tournament. In the two victories, she registered two goals, seven assists, 10 ground balls, five caused turnovers and nine draw controls. Green handed out a career-high four assists in the 19-8 win over Stockton, to go along with two ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls. She then tallied two goals and three assists in the 21-2 win over Montclair State in the regular-season finale as Rowan won its fifth in a row.
Corson earns top rookie honors for the fourth consecutive week and the fifth time this season. The freshman attack player totaled seven goals and one assist in the two contests. Corson had three goals and one assist, along with a caused turnover, in the 19-8 win over Stockton. She followed that with four goals, one ground ball and one caused turnover, against Montclair State. Corson now has 44 goals on the season, which ranks second on the squad, and fifth in the conference with 2.56 goals per game.
For the fourth week in a row in winning the honor, Galvin broke her own school record in the hammer for fifth time this season at the Penn Relays on Thursday, as her 56.69 meter mark was also a PR. Galvin also threw the shot (11.30 meters) on Saturday at The College of New Jersey Lions Invitational
Also on Saturday, Bey had marks of 11.27 meters in the shot and 41.49 meters in the hammer at the TCNJ Lions Invitational.
Corcoran, who nabs the award for the second time this season, was part of the 4x100 that qualified for the finals with a time of 42.46 at the Penn Relays on Friday. The relay did not run on Saturday in the championship final.
Women's Lacrosse (13-4) will host Stockton in the semifinals of the NJAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament here on Wednesday, May 3 at 4 p.m. with the winner facing the winner of the TCNJ-Kean matchup on Saturday for the conference championship.
Both the men's and women's track & field teams also look for conference crowns this weekend at the NJAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Saturday held at Ramapo College.
